THE Mayor of Crewkerne has paid tributes to the Queen.

Cllr Kathy Head said she was “saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II”.

Crewkerne now has dedicated areas where residents can pay their respect with flowers.

The Mayor said: “As Mayor of Crewkerne, and on behalf of the town council and its residents, I am saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

“The Queen has served this country for over 70 years and for many of us has been the only monarch we have known in our lifetimes.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the members of the Royal Family at this sad time.

“The flag at the town hall will be lowered to half-mast during the mourning period.

“A condolence book will be made available in the Local Information Centre within the Town Hall for those wishing to put their thoughts into writing.

“Further details will follow shortly. There is also an electronic version that may be signed on the Royal website.”

The dedicated areas for those wishing to pay their respects with flowers are:

• St Bartholomew’s Churchyard;
• Severalls War Memorial Gardens;
• Under the Lucombe Oak, Henhayes.
