A COFFEE morning in memory of a Chard dad will take place next month.

Rah Warren has been running coffee mornings for six years to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of her dad, Guy Warren.

Rah said: “For the past six years, my family and I have held annual coffee mornings, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, in memory of my dad, Guy Warren.

“We very sadly lost our dad in 2009, just 19 days after diagnosis, at the age of 49.

“Macmillan were extraordinary in providing care and support to my dad, and to us as a family until long after we suffered the loss of our dad.

“Without Macmillan, my dad’s last 19 days after diagnosis would not have been as comfortable as they were, surrounded by the people he loved and who thought the world of him.

“Our dad was, and still is, the centre of our world. My dad was an incredibly hard-working man and an unconditionally loving family man with an absolute heart of gold. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Trudi, for 29 years, and dearly loved their five children and 19 grandchildren.

“Ever since the loss of our dad, it has been our focus to raise money for Macmillan to thank them for their care for my dad, and to help Macmillan continually provide their incredible care and support for others in their desperate time of need when their whole world is falling apart.

“I take comfort that although the time has gone for my dad, we are still able to do good for others and to help to ease their heartache by helping Macmillan to continue providing their invaluable support.

“In addition, these fundraising events also enable us as a family to keep the life and memory of my dad alive and to reminisce on our special times, which means more to me than words can express.

“The care provided by Macmillan costs £1000, for just one week, which shows just how vital it is that Macmillan receive fund-raising support.

“Over the years, we have received numerous handwritten cards from Macmillan to thank us for our fundraising, which demonstrates how deserving and appreciative Macmillan is.”

The event is to include tea, coffee and lots of homemade cake.

A raffle and silent auction, supported by many local businesses, will also be available.

Rah added: “We are extremely grateful to all of you who continue to support our Macmillan coffee mornings, in memory of my dad, Guy Warren. We simply couldn't do it without you.”

The event will take place on Saturday, 17 September at Chard Guidhall from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
