Chard & Ilminster News:

A message on the carnival Facebook page read: “If you would like a little project for the summer why not get an entry together, anyone can enter, there’s no fee for entering and there’s always hundreds of pounds of prize money that remains unwon in the parade every year.

“If you have ever thought you would like to give it a go now is your chance.

“The route takes about one hour to complete.

“In our 100th year it would be great to see more people get involved in the actual parade as well as turning out to watch.”

The organisers also issued an appeal for royalty: “This year in what has been the Jubilee year, and will be our 100th Carnival since 1922, it wouldn't be a carnival without some royalty.

“If you would like to be in a chance to represent South Petherton at this year’s carnival we would love to hear from you.

“Traditionally our carnival royalty will help support the carnival and earn their coveted place by carrying out fundraising in the lead up to the parade. This could be in the form of a charity cake sale, car washing, getting sponsors, raffles.”

The event will also raise funds for different causes.

The money raised on the evening will go towards the cost of running the carnival, prize money for entrants, and charitable money that is donated towards local groups and organisations of South Petherton.
