A MOTORIST from Chard has been banned from driving for six months after he was caught speeding on a Devon dual carriageway.

Timothy Charles Northcott, whose address is listed as Ivy House, was caught exceeding the 70mph speed limit on the A30 past Tedburn St Mary, near Exeter, on August 3, 2021.

Court documents do not disclose the speed Northcott, 69, was driving at in a BMW car.

Northcott admitted the offence under the single justice procedure on May 3, 2022.

He appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court by live link on Wednesday, June 29.

Northcott was banned from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months.

Court documents say his disqualification was “obligatory due to repeat offending”.

His application for mitigating circumstances and exceptional hardship was not granted because he is able to get to work using public transport.

The listing adds: “His partner drives and has others that could assist her with additional driving.”

He was fined £96 and told to pay £90 in court costs and a £34 surcharge to fund victim services.

Northcott has until July 27 to pay his £220 court bill.

His guilty plea was considered when he was sentenced.
