STUDENTS met yesterday (May 9) to support the Lord Lieutenant on the latest leg of her Jubilee Jaunt.

Annie Maw has dedicated the second leg of her challenge to Somerset Day (which is held on May 11), to 'honour not only Her Majesty but also our fantastic county'.

She broke her back in a horse-riding accident 20 years ago resulting in paraplegia, but she won’t be letting life in a wheelchair get in the way of her tribute to The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

She has begun seven days of journeys – each ten miles long – across Somerset, each accompanied by young people taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

This latest part of the challenge is centred around the Chard/Ilminster area.

She started the jaunt at Holyrood Academy on May 9 at 9am, where she was met by 30 students, Headteacher Dave MacCormick and Chard's Town Crier.

The route then continued onto Chard’s main street and Guildhall, Avishayes Primary School, before moving off through Donyatt, then Ilminster.

It ended up at Dillington House (around 2pm) for a final guard of honour from the students.
