ON Friday (March 25) the Pancake Pod were giving away free pancakes for a good cause.

The food truck was set up at B&Q in Chard for a fundraising event for Brain Tumour Research on 'Wear a Hat Day'.

As well as free pancakes, local musician Jack Humphries and the local band Seatrees performed to the crowd in the carpark which made for a great setting mixed with the sunshine.

In total the event raised over £1250 for the charity which is of special importance to John Furnish, organiser of the event and owner of the Pancake Pod.

Recently, Chard United footballer Alex 'Jibber' Ives sadly lost his battle with a brain tumour and his good friend John put this event on to raise much needed funds for the charity.

After the event John Furnish said: "We want to thank those who gave up their time for free or donated to make this event take place.

"A special thanks to our suppliers who donated 70% of goods, these include Caterfoods, SJB foods, Tesco chard, TA GAS & Madamemoiselle Cakes Taunton.

"The pancakepod staff on the night did an amazing job, thank you for giving up your time and all the effort in the build up.

"Most importantly thank you to everyone who has donated so far online and it was great to see so many on the night especially in their funky hats.

"This is a cause close to our hearts following our recent loss of our friend, Alex Ives aka Jibber, to a brain tumour.

"As we remember Alex, we also hold close to us people currently living with a Brain Tumour diagnosis, their families and friends, and aim to fundraise as much money as we can."

The just giving page is still active so feel free to donate if you missed this event and want to donate.
