HELLO,

I’m Julie and I work for Engage Somerset, a project provided by PLUSS. I am here to help enhance people’s wellbeing and make a difference, whether that be emotionally, physically, mentally, or digitally. We have so much going on.

I recently met with three lovely ladies in Chard Library along with Pete, the Village Agent. The library provided us with tea and biscuits - which was very kind.

I wanted to plan a walk for people in Chard who are feeling a little isolated and who want to make new friends. Children, buggies and dogs are all welcome. I suggested we all meet first, for a chat and a cuppa, to discuss where we should walk, times etc as I wanted everyone to feel involved.

We had a lovely chat, and the time just flew. Between us we arranged our first walk for following Monday.

I later received a text from one of the ladies – "It was good to see you and meet some of the group. I walked home with Karen. I’m really looking forward to next week’’.

I was so chuffed to receive this text as this was from one lady who was feeling particularly lonely.

Our walks are going to be every Monday at 11am and if it’s raining, we are going to meet for a coffee instead. We have nine people joining the walk this Monday and we’re all going to Neroche Forest. I can’t wait. It be so good to get out in the fresh air - and the sun is supposed to be shining too.

If you’re interested in knowing more about Engage Somerset and are curious about getting involved, please call me on 07341002808 – there’s lots of support available, and it’s all fully funded.
