THE owner of a wildlife rescue centre said she is “excited” about the future as she works on the new hospital unit that will help care for birds of prey.

Sharon Cox, who runs Sharandys Birds of Prey in Chard with her son Matt Banks, said the new hospital is a “huge relief” and will help provide better care for the birds they rescue.

She said: “We have done the inside, we just got to do the electric and the outside. We are ready to get birds of prey.

“It’s a huge relief, we can work better, there’s more room, and we can give better treatment. The birds will be more comfortable. It’s a massive relief.”

The hospital unit at the centre before the upgrade

In order to reach their goal, Sharon and Matt set up a GoFundMe page to raise the funds they needed to upgrade their hospital unit.

The centre raised £2500 in about a week last month and Sharon was “thrilled” to announce the good news.

Now she said: “We were amazed. We thought we could make it in three or four months but to do it in a week it’s absolutely amazing.

“We were taken aback by the support we received.”

Sharon also said: “I am very excited for the future. It will be nice to see how it works and how better it will be.

“Fingers crossed when we get birds in, we will be able to show how better it is.”
