PUPILS from a primary school in Chard enjoyed a week of fun activities before October half term.

Year 6 classes from The Redstart Primary School headed to Kilve Court.

Despite it being a rainy week, the children enjoyed a range of different activities.

These included a six mile walk across the Quantocks, high ropes climbing, grass sledging, archery and a very muddy stream walk.

As well as this, the students used their forest school skills to build shelters and fires in the woods.

Mrs Rebecca Collins, head of school at The Redstart Primary School, said: “I am so delighted, after such a challenging year, that the children were able to get to Kilve for their week-long residential and that they had such an enriching experience which no doubt will hold many treasured memories for them.”

The Redstart Primary School is part of The Redstart Learning Partnership, which is a multi-academy trust of 10 primary schools. The trust has just welcomed a new school to their trust - Stockland C of E Primary Academy in Devon.

The Redstart Learning Partnership launched in 2015 with three primary schools in their portfolio.

A spokesperson for The Redstart Learning Partnership added: “We were thrilled to see and hear about the fantastic activities that the year 6 pupils from Redstart enjoyed at Kilve Court.

"Thankfully the wind and rain didn’t deter them, they clearly are a tough bunch.

"It was fantastic to see them all participating in such brave challenges, adventures and enjoying the mud.”

The Redstart Primary School is a two form entry primary school with a nursery that offers 32 full time places.

There are 14 classes organised in year groups, with parallel class teachers working together to plan lessons.

The school was awarded a Good rating by Ofsted in March 2020. The report said that 'pupils are articulate and good natured', and that they 'look after both their school and community environment'. It said that 'leaders promote reading as the linchpin of the curriculum'.
