A COFFEE morning in memory of a Chard dad is set to return this year with a face-to-face.

And a very special guest is set to make an appearance during the event - actor Martin Clunes.

The Warren family have held annual coffee mornings for the past five years in memory of their dad, Guy Warren.

But last year, the event was held virtually due to the coronavirus crisis.

Guy sadly passed away in 2009 at just 49-years-old, just 19 days after he was diagnosed with cancer.

The coffee mornings are held to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, who were 'incredible' when providing care and attention to Guy after he was diagnosed.

Rah Warren, Guy's daughter and an organiser of the coffee morning, said: "Our dad was, and still is, the centre of our world. He was a hard working man, who was married to his childhood sweetheart, Trudi, for 29 years, and dearly loved their five children and 21 grandchildren.

"Ever since, it has been our focus to continually do whatever we can in order to thank Macmillan for their care, but to also ensure that Macmillan can continue to do their incredible work.

"The care provided by Macmillan costs £1000, for just one week, which demonstrates just how vital it is that Macmillan receive fundraising support.

"Our fundraisers not only enable us to support Macmillan, but also enable us to tell dad’s story and to reminisce on our special memories."

This years face-to-face event will be held at the Guildhall in Chard on September 11, between 9:30am and 1.30pm.

There will be a raffle, silent auction, guessing competitions, knitted/crocheted gifts for sale and tea with homemade cake.

Known for his role in Doc Martin, Martin also attended the coffee morning in 2019, during which the event raised more than £2,700 for the cancer charity.

"I am pleased to announce that we are honoured to have a celebrity guest appearance from Martin Clunes again," added Rah.

"We are extremely grateful of his kindness and generosity, in attending our event again this year."
