CHILDREN across Chard have been transported to other worlds thanks to visits from a fantasy writer.

Bestselling children’s author Emma Carroll toured four schools in the South Somerset area with her new book Sky Chasers.

She told pupils about how she came to write her latest book, about the process of being an author, and took part in question and answers sessions with classes.

In total, more than 500 children were given the chance to meet the writer, who lives in Somerset.

The tour of schools included Tatworth School, Combe St Nicholas School, Manor Court School and Redstart School, and was organised by Chard Bookshop’s Amanda Broom.

Mrs Broom said: “Emma was so inspiring in her school visits, the children absolutely loved learning about Sky Chasers and how Emma has come to be living her dream as an author.

“The presentation was fun and engaging with children being involved throughout.

“Many children are already planning to write their next stories.”

Sky Chasers is Emma’s seventh book, with others including Letters from the Lighthouse, Frost Hollow Hall, and In Darkling Wood.

Work is already underway trying to organise another author tour of the town, with plans in place to bring Somerset author Tamsin Cooke, writer of The Scarlett Files, to pupils.
