MOBILITY scooter users in Ilminster have the chance to give their wheels a makeover this summer.

The Pimp My Scooter event takes place on Saturday, June 11, and is inviting people in the town to adorn their scooters with more racy decals or even come dressed in superhero outfits.

The overall winner of the competition, sponsored by Electric Mobility Euro Limited, will receive £100 of Ilminster First Tuesday Vouchers to spend in any of the participating businesses and shops.

A parade of scooters will ride down Silver Street– with competitors assembling at the Swan Precinct, ahead of judging at Greenfylde School later in the afternoon.

Steve Perry, of Electric Mobility Euro Limited, said: “We have left it open to the imagination - so people can dress up themselves or dress up their scooter and create a theme!”

As well as the frivolity, there is also some serious safety advice – with Avon and Somerset Police visiting Greenfylde School between 11am and 3pm for a stay safe, stay mobile awareness course, with the chance to ride a special police scooter.

A distributor will be on hand to give advice on servicing, insurance and any enquiries people may have.

Steve added: “As far as we’re aware Ilminster is the first place in the UK to run a pimp my scooter competition and we’re looking forward to it and are happy to help the local community to support the event.”
