THE British Transport Police has confirmed this afternoon that a woman has been killed after being struck by a train on the outskirts of Chard.
The incident happened at just before 2pm today on the railway line about a mile from Chard Junction.
A BTP spokesman said: "We and officers from Avon and Somerset Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported to police at 1.59pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Paramedics also attended and the body of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, was discovered at the scene with injuries consistent with being hit by a train.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the woman’s identity and the full circumstances leading up to her death.
“The train involved was the 1120hrs London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids service.”
