BUDDING reporters at Holyrood Community School in Chard gave News staff a run for our money today.
Year 9 students got the inside scoop on life in the newsroom during a Hold The Front Page activity day.
The 97 youngsters were split into groups of four and assigned various roles on their very own newspaper.
They were then tasked with writing and editing stories for the front page of their publication, facing real life situations such as interviews, press conferences and breaking news.
Each group also gave a presentation on why their title should be named top of the tabloids.
Despite some tough competition, the overall winners were chosen as Connie Black, Rosie Wilson, Harry Careless and Finn Burton with their newspaper, The Daily Pebble.
They each received a certificate marking their achievement and a box of chocolates to share.
The exercise was held as part of the school’s Theme Learning Day, which saw students tackle challenges related to subjects such as English, business, sport and technology.
Holyrood teacher Dominic Hunt, who helped co-ordinate the event, said: “The students really got into it and gave it their best.
“Some may even decide it’s the career for them.”
