VICTORY was particularly sweet for children at Ilminster’s Cheekie Monkeys nursery after they scooped first prize in the town council’s scarecrow competition.
The tots had cause for a special celebration after being named joint winners of the child’s category with their entry, Mr Scruff.
As reported in the News, the group were left devastated when their original entry, Mr Springles, was snatched from outside the nursery premises.
They had just one day to assemble a new scarecrow for the competition, held as part of this month’s Ilminster Midsummer Experience festival.
Cheekie Monkeys owner Lesley Jay said: “The children were very excited when they found out they’d won.
“It’s a really nice achievement for them – especially because their original entry was stolen.
“It’s good to see their hard work has been rewarded.”
Competition judges also named Lauren Miller as joint winner of the child’s category.
Jane Morgan of Sweet Surprise picked up first place in the adults/families category, with Catherine Trott in second and Kelly Jenkins third.
