Yeovil man jailed after string of supermarket thefts

Jamie Gullis, 35, of Southway Crescent, Yeovil, was arrested on Stiby Road just after 12.50pm on Tuesday, September 15, following a call from a member of the public.

Police said after this he was later charged with more than 15 counts of theft from supermarkets and convenience stores in town and further afield (Langport), including Co-op, Tesco and Asda.

Police said Gullis appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Court the following day (September 16) and pleaded guilty to all charges.

On September 16 of this year, Gullis was sentenced in Taunton Magistrate’s court for multiple theft offences dating between April and September of this year.

Items Gullis stole included six bottles of Jack Daniel's, rum and vodka, baby milk, and beer, laundry products, cat food, wine and biscuits, bottles of Kraken rum, baby formula, meat and chocolate.

These items came to a value of more than £3,192.92.

Gullis was sentenced to serve a total of 48 weeks in prison and has been ordered to pay compensation totalling £1020.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police arrested a man in Stiby Road, Yeovil, just after 12.50pm on Tuesday, September 15, following a call from a member of the public.

"Jamie Gullis, 35, of Southway Crescent, Yeovil, was later charged with 15 counts of theft from supermarkets and convenience stories in the town.

"Gullis appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 16 September and admitted stealing products including beer, wine and spirits, cat food, ready meals, meat, laundry products, chocolate and biscuits.

"Taking his guilty pleas into account, magistrates jailed Gullis for 12 weeks for each offence, to be served concurrently, and ordered to pay compensation totalling £1,020."
