New opportunities to learn and develop skills are being made available to thousands of adults across Somerset.
SS&L, the core delivery partner for Somerset Council's new tailored learning programme for 2026/27, has launched a new programme of Community Learning courses and workshops.
The scheme, previously known as Community Learning, is open to anyone aged 19 or over and aims to support adults in gaining new skills, improving confidence, and taking steps towards personal goals.
Kathryn Baker, chief executive at SS&L, said: “Being awarded the core Community Learning contract for 2026/27 means SS&L can continue delivering our mission to change lives through learning right at the heart of Somerset’s communities.
“Accessible adult learning can be transformational – bringing people together, building confidence, skills and aspiration, and opening opportunities that may previously have felt out of reach.”
The programme features short courses and workshops in areas such as employability skills, family learning, essential skills, building confidence, stronger communities, and health and wellbeing.

SS&L focuses not only on the content of the courses but also on the broader impact learning can have on people’s lives.
One learner, John, who took part in a neurodivergent journal course in Frome, said: “This course has brought together a group of people all in similar situations, and we can sit and talk and learn from each other.
“You can get tips online, but nothing really in-depth or personal.”
Another participant described the impact on their self-belief.
They said: “After years of believing that I wasn’t worthy of doing anything for myself, these courses have helped me realise that simply isn’t true.
“I’m getting out of my comfort zone, learning new skills, and learning to believe in myself again.”
With new opportunities being added throughout the year, SS&L is encouraging adults to explore what’s available and consider how learning could help them move forward.
