TWO men have been jailed after a doorbell camera caught them burgling a home in Yeovil.

Wayne Shortland, 43, from Yeovil, and Lewis Coombes, 38, of Castle Cary, stole electrical items and cash from a property on South Street in the early hours of Sunday, March 22.

Their haul included two games consoles and other valuables, none of which have been recovered.

Coombes was arrested several hours after the burglary and later appeared at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday, May 22.

He pleaded guilty to burglary, theft, assault, breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order, and breaching the terms of a suspended sentence.

According to police, he was sentenced to 36 months in prison.

Shortland was arrested on Wednesday, April 29, and charged with burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, and four counts of shop theft.

He appeared at Taunton Crown Court on Friday, July 10, where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

PC Jim Card, the officer in the case, said: "We welcome the sentence handed to these prolific burglars, and we hope their victims can take some comfort following the harm and distress caused by their offending.

"Burglary is an invasive crime which can have a significant impact on victims, not just in terms of financial and sentimental loss, but it can also make people feel unsafe in their own homes.

"We urge people to continue reporting such incidents."
