Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting staff and students at the unveiling of the new Construction Innovation Centre at Yeovil College, writes Adam Dance MP.
Spending time talking with young people about their ambitions and seeing the excitement surrounding the new facility left me feeling hugely optimistic about the future.
This is exactly the sort of investment our community has needed for a long time.
Backed by more than £60m from the Department for Education, the wider college redevelopment sends a strong message that Yeovil and South Somerset matter, and that our young people are worth backing.
Too often, areas like ours can feel overlooked, so it is fantastic to see this level of confidence being shown in our community.
When I am out speaking to families on the doorstep, one concern comes up time and again.
Many young people feel they must leave the area to gain specialist skills, technical qualifications, or better career opportunities.
That is difficult for families, but it is also a loss for our area because we risk seeing talented young people move away simply to get the opportunities they deserve.

I understand that personally because, when I was growing up in Somerset, facilities and opportunities like this simply were not available locally.
Access to modern training and high-quality technical education was far more limited, especially compared with larger towns and cities.
That is why seeing this level of investment come into South Somerset means so much to me.
What really stands out about the Construction Innovation Centre is the close partnership with local employers.
The training has been designed around the real needs of businesses in our area, helping students gain practical skills that can lead directly to rewarding careers.
From traditional trades to sustainable construction and green technologies, this centre is preparing young people for the future.
I hope this centre gives young people confidence in themselves and confidence that they can build successful futures right here in Somerset.
This is a hugely positive moment for Yeovil and South Somerset, and I look forward to seeing the difference this fantastic facility will make for years to come.
