It’s no secret that I love cricket, writes Cllr Bill Revans.

Alongside my council duties, I also chair North Petherton Cricket Club.

It was a special treat to watch a great game of village cricket between Butleigh and NPCC on Saturday, 9 May.

I set up the youth teams in North Petherton in 1997.

It was brilliant to see Tom Williams, who was in my original under-11s team, hit a century on Saturday, 29 years on.

Once COVID restrictions were lifted, we were able to restart our youth programme.

Also great to see 14-year-old Ryan Semken hit his first 50 for our second XI on Saturday, from those 10-year-olds starting out then.

Voluntary amateur sports clubs contribute so much to our community.

North Petherton Town Football Club and North Petherton Cricket Club are coming together to support one of our players, 17-year-old Charlie Coles.

Charlie has leukaemia.

He’s been battling it for a few months now with his family’s support.

His treatment is up in Bristol, and the hospital and CLIC have been amazingly supportive.

Our clubs are putting on a joint fundraiser - The Charlie Coles Cup.

It will take place on Sunday, 24 May, at North Petherton Cricket Club from 2pm.

Join us for a great day with a football match, cricket match, a BBQ and bar, and a raffle and games.

Many businesses have supported us with raffle prizes.

If you can’t make it but would still like to support, you can donate at justgiving.com/page/charliecolescharitycup?utm_source=CL&utm_medium=DT.

All funds will be split between the charities that have supported Charlie during this time.

Every donation really does make a difference.

Please come along if you can and help support a great cause.
