A recent visit from a road safety expert has helped pupils in South Somerset learn how to stay safe in their communities.
St Gildas Catholic Primary School in Yeovil welcomed Lisa from Somerset Road Safety for a session earlier this term, offering practical advice for children travelling on foot, by bike, scooter, car, or bus.
The session emphasised the importance of everyday precautions such as wearing seatbelts, staying alert near traffic, and making sensible decisions to protect themselves and others.
Headteacher Andie Bartley said: "It was fantastic to see our pupils so engaged and keen to learn about road safety.
"Sessions like this are invaluable in helping children understand the importance of making safe choices every day."
The school thanked Somerset Road Safety for sharing their expertise, noting that the visit will help ensure pupils are better prepared to navigate their communities safely.
Somerset Road Safety is a specialist team within Somerset Council focused on reducing road collisions and casualties across the county through education, training, engineering, and enforcement.
Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, said: "We are delighted that our pupils had the chance to take part in this important session.
"Teaching children how to be safe on our roads is vital, and we’re proud to partner with Somerset Road Safety to give them the knowledge and confidence they need."
The visit supported St Gildas' ongoing commitment to personal safety and community awareness.
