Search the Public Notice PortalA SOMERSET college has opened its new Construction Innovation Centre as part of a campus rebuild costing more than £60 million.
Yeovil College this week opened the multimillion-pound facility and said it ‘will redefine construction training for learners across the region’.
BAM marked the opening with a key-handover, presenting the building key to the Department for Education (DfE) and Yeovil College bosses.
College bosses said: “This moment celebrated the completion of one of the flagship buildings within the multi-million redevelopment programme happening on the college campus.”
The Construction Innovation Centre has industry-standard workshops, specialist kits and learning spaces geared towards jobs or further study.
It will train learners in trades including carpentry, bricklaying, electrical installation, plumbing and multi-skilled work.
It is the second major building finished under Yeovil College’s ‘once-in-a-generation’ Big Build programme, funded by the Department for Education.

A college spokesperson said: “This strategic investment is reshaping the campus with modern, sustainable, and industry-aligned buildings designed to meet the needs of future learners and employers.”
The first building to open was the Yeovil Institute of Sport, and the next is the Wessex Learning Centre teaching block, due in July 2027.
It will add classrooms, bring several courses together, create study spaces and encourage students to work together.
A college spokesperson said: “The teaching block will support thousands of learners each year and cement Yeovil College’s position as one of the most future-focused education institutions in the South West.”
Mark Bolton, principal and chief executive of Yeovil College, said: “The opening of our Construction Innovation Centre represents another transformative moment for Yeovil College.
As the Big Build progresses, each new building enhances the outstanding opportunities available to our learners, and today’s handover from BAM to the DfE and Yeovil College marks the start of an exciting chapter for construction education in our community.”
BAM also praised the partnership and said the new building will boost local skills and help the industry grow.
