A PLANNING application has been submitted to build two new homes on land off the A358 between Taunton and Ilminster.

Mr R Chelton has submitted a planning application to transform land to the rear of Palmer Green House, Stewley Road, located half a mile from the village centre of Hatch Beauchamp, which is currently used as an equestrian paddock, into two two-storey dwellings with gardens, a double carport and additional off-street parking.

The application site is surrounded by residential dwellings on three sides with agricultural land to the east.

The plan says: “The proposal would provide two dwellings in a village where there is a housing need, and where there is good access to services and facilities.

“The proposed development is in a sustainable location.”

“The windows to the rear of the properties will look out onto the agricultural land and there will be a significant distance between the front of the proposed dwellings and the rear of the existing dwellings.”

According to the planning statement, this is a "well-conceived, high-quality development proposal".

It says: “The provision of two dwellings would contribute towards addressing the Council’s housing needs, land supply shortfall, and substantial unmet housing need, which merits significant weight even though the volume of housing would comprise a small contribution.

“The scheme will also give rise to economic benefits as a result of the creation of jobs during the construction phases, albeit on a short-term basis. Long-term, there will be local expenditure by future residents, who would also support local facilities and contribute towards the community. These are positive aspects of the scheme which should be given significant weight.

“Overall, this is a well-conceived, high-quality development proposal that is fully responsive to the site’s characteristics and constraints, and the local context.  It is therefore hoped that there will be support for the scheme and planning permission will be granted.”
