A small craft project by Horton and District WI has blossomed into striking poppy displays at St Peter’s Church, Horton, to honour those who served.
Members, family, and friends of the WI contributed to the creation of 1,600 poppies, crafted from various materials.
The 1st Ilton and Broadway Scout Group and the Cubs also participated, creating large felt poppies and a wooden poppy emblem, respectively.
The displays feature poppies of different colours, each with a unique significance.
Red poppies represent remembrance, white stands for peace, purple honours animals and birds, black is for members of the Commonwealth, and yellow commemorates the Canary Girls who worked in munitions factories during the First World War.
St Peter’s Church expressed gratitude to all contributors, including the Horton and District WI, Family, Friends, the 1st Ilton and Broadway Scout Group, the Cubs, and Kat Casley for coordinating the displays.
The display has been described as "beautiful and poignant."
