Subscribers to Somerset’s garden waste scheme might notice a change to their collection days.
The council and their collections contractor, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, have announced that collection arrangements for around 53,000 subscribers will change.
This alteration is due to the significant growth in the number of subscriptions over the past five years, which has meant that the original routes have now exceeded their capacity for efficient operation.
Not every subscriber will see a change to their collection arrangement, but those that will could see a change in the week collected, a change in the day and/or week, and a one-off interim collection on Saturday, November 22 for those where a change in week means that residents would go too long between collections.
The changes to garden waste collections will take place from the week beginning Monday, November 24.
Online calendars will also be updated from the same day, and residents will be able to check their collection day online at somerset.gov.uk/collection-days.
Residents will either receive an email or a letter in the post informing them of the change.
Cllr Richard Wilkins, Somerset Council's executive member for transport and waste services, said: “Due to the significant growth in our Garden Waste subscription service, we need to adjust some collection schedules to maintain efficient and sustainable operations.
“We appreciate residents’ understanding and encourage all subscribers to check their updated collection days online or via the notifications provided.”
