A SOUTH Somerset councillor has welcomed the council’s decision to keep the waiting rooms open at Yeovil Bus Station.
Somerset Council made the announcement yesterday (May 15) saying “there are absolutely no plans to close it”.
After fears around the closure of the waiting rooms due to costs, the council has struck a deal with First and Somerset Bus Partnership to keep it open until alternative funding can be found.
Adam Dance, councillor for South Petherton and also Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Yeovil, said: "This is great news.
“We can't have a situation like in Taunton where there is no indoor waiting room at the town's main bus station.
“Earlier this week, I met with First, Somerset Bus Partnership and council officers to find a solution.
“I am delighted that through this partnership work, an agreement has been struck for the waiting rooms to remain open for the next few months.
"I will continue working closely with all those involved to find a long-term solution to keep them open.
"I am also working with the council to find a way to bring public toilets back to the location."
