NICK Clegg, former leader of the Liberal Democrats, and David Laws, previous Liberal Democrat MP for Yeovil, launched a campaign to elect Adam Dance as the next Liberal Democrat MP for the area.
Mr Clegg and Mr Laws, who was the previous Lib Dem MP for Yeovil were at Haselbury Mill last Friday.
Mr Clegg spoke of the importance of restoring respectful and honourable behaviour by government and politicians, and of the role liberal values have in developing innovative approaches to current issues.
Mr Laws emphasised the legacy of Paddy Ashdown and the hope that many West Country parliamentary seats would return to the Liberal Democrats in the forthcoming General Election.
The evening was attended by more than 130 people, with auction prizes from a number of local businesses and individuals.
Cllr Dance said: "I was overwhelmed by the support from all those who attended, in particular from Jane Ashdown, Paddy's wife, and from both Nick and David.
"Giving me their endorsement means a great deal to me personally and helps to enthuse the whole Yeovil team to reach out to voters so that we can return the Yeovil constituency to the Liberal Democrats.
“We need a local voice in parliament which delivers for local businesses and local people.
“I will work tirelessly to help and support our Yeovil community."
