MP DAVID Laws went back to school today (Friday) - to inspect the latest building at Combe St Nicholas Primary School.

Head Stuart May and chair of governors Lesley Cole offered a guided tour through classes one, two and three where Mr Laws took the opportunity to speak to students and staff.

Stuart revealed that the new building had cost £370,000, well under the predicted total of £500,000, and featured two new classrooms that can be opened up to create a school hall - something that has been missing from the school for too long - as well as new toilets and cloakrooms.

A new kitchen area will enable hot meals to be served and a vegetable patch for the gardening club is hoped to add both to salads and the pupils understanding of food cycles and biology.

Mr Laws took time to speak to several pupils individually about their work as well as fielding a few questions they had for him, such as where he worked and how much he earned ('not as much as the Prime Minister').

Stuart May, who will step down as head at the end of the year, hopes the new buildings will create fresh ideas.

He said: "I think the school is ready for someone new, we've got everything in place, new buildings and structures. It's been a great 14 years that have whipped past more like four!"
