THE Sunday Times has compiled a list of the best places to eat this summer – including four in Somerset.

If you are after delicious dishes, refreshing drinks or simply a place to sit and enjoy the sunshine, it is well worth visiting any of these four establishments.

In total, 49 places were listed in the newspaper's 'best places to eat this summer' feature, four of which are based in the county.

The nominations were made by Nicholas Balfe, co-founder and chef-director of Holm in South Petherton.

The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, Burrow Hill

As one of the oldest cider-making companies in Somerset, the business at Burrow Hill in Martock is very popular with residents and visitors alike.

If you are planning on visiting during a Saturday, you can expect live music, pints of cider and street food in their cider bus.

Lord Poulett Arms, Hinton Saint George

This historic thatched pub was established in 1680, and is situated in the heart of a stunning Somerset village. The pub boasts a beautiful beer garden, which acts as the perfect place to soak up the sun's rays.

The Lord Poulett Arms' website reads: "Our menus change as frequently as the surrounding Somerset landscape. Meat and game from local farms, fish landed daily on the south coast and fresh leaves picked just a few steps away in the Kitchen Garden.

"Well-aged steaks served with hand-cut chips, comforting home-cooked pies, indulgent desserts and world-class cheese."

Smith and Evans English Sparkling Wine, Langport

Ever wondered how wine is made? At Smith and Evans English Sparking Wine, you will have the chance to enjoy some bubbles and have a tour of the vineyard. Nicholas recommends a glass of the Trilogy champagne-style blend.

As explained on the website, they pride themselves for being "wine merchant and makers of award winning sparkling wines from the heart of Somerset."

The Bloom Wine Company, South Petherton

The Bloom Wine Company acts as the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy some wine and cheese.

The company's website reads: "Pull up a chair in our cosy wine bar and coffee shop nestled in the heart of South Petherton.

"A curated selection of delicious fine wines & Deli goods alongside beautiful artisan home and lifestyle pieces."
