PEOPLE in Forton Road, Chard, were the victims of a bizarre prank last weekend.

Almost 40 aerials were unscrewed from cars parked along the road and stashed under a vehicle on Sunday morning.

Norman and Christine Oliver, of Ashfield Terrace, were among the car owners who lost an aerial.

Christine said: "A neighbour knocked on our door at about 11.30am and asked us to check our car.

"It took us a moment to see what had happened but when we realised we couldn't quite believe it - every car on the road was missing an aerial."

The couple called the police and began knocking on neighbours' doors.

Christine said: "At first we assumed they were lost for good but we later found out they had been dumped under one of the cars.

"We think it must have happened after 1.30am on Sunday but it's unbelievable nobody heard anything."

Norman added: "It was a childish prank, and I'm sure whoever is responsible found it hilarious, but I don't think it's funny.

"The good thing is they didn't do more damage but it could have been very costly."

Neighbourhood Sgt Andy Lloyd said: "The incident looks like the result of high spirits and luckily the aerials were found and can be picked up from one of the houses in the area. It's impossible to get fingerprints but if anyone knows what happened we would like to speak to them."
