A MAN died after a two-vehicle collision on the A303 yesterday (Monday, May 15).

The collision involved a car and a van and took place between the A359 (Sparkford) and the A37 (Podimore) at around 2.40pm yesterday (May 15).

Police said "sadly, the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene".

Two people were taken to hospital.

Emergency services were on the scene and the A303 was closed both ways.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "Two vehicles were involved in a collision on the A303 at Camel Hill at approximately 2.40pm yesterday.

"Sadly, the driver of one of the vehicles died at the scene.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and a specialist family liaison officer will now provide them with support.

"The man’s passenger and the driver of the other vehicle, both women, were taken to hospital with serious injuries following the collision.

"The road was closed between the Podimore (A37) and Sparkford (A359) roundabouts while emergency services responded.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 2.43pm on May 15 to an incident in the Conygore area.

“We sent three double-crew land ambulances, two air ambulances, an operations officer, and a critical care car.
"Two individuals were conveyed by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital.”
