A new walking project is set to take women into nature and help their mind, body and spirit.

Leader Ann Simon will be guiding walkers through free varied routes around Saltaire and Oakwell Country Park every Wednesday.

It is hoped the group will get more people talking about their mental health and exploring the outdoors.

Known as the Muslim Women's Network UK (MWN) Wellbeing Walk project, it has been funded by Sports England.

“Nature is god’s gift to everyone regardless of colour or creed,” Ann said.

One member Sairah Hussain, who lives in Batley, told the T&A: “It would create a space in my life where I can just let all my anxieties and things I’m struggling with go, even if it’s just for an hour or two.

“To have that space where we can just ‘be’, connect with other people and just be around people – it takes you out of your mind and makes you realise everything your mind tells you is not correct.”
