THE sun was shining on the parents and pupils who attended Buckland St Mary Primary School's annual May Fair at the weekend.

The fair took place on Saturday, May 7 at the school and featured the Stoke-sub-Hamdon Band, a performance from the Karizma Majorettes, a cake stall, a tombola, a bouncy castle, a Pimm's tent, face painting, ice cream, a raffle, and a plant stall.

For the first time, the event also hosted a dog school with classes “to suit all shapes and sizes of dogs”.

Winners were named in six categories: Prettiest pooch, most obedient dog, best puppy (12 months and under), best veteran (nine years and older), best child handler, and dog with the waggiest tail.

There was also a BBQ and other refreshments available throughout the day.

The May Fair was free to enter and proceeds from the event went to the primary school.

The money raised at previous May Fairs has been used to buy items to help the children learn, including new laptops

The school is part of The Redstart Learning Partnership, which is overseen by CEO Mrs Suzanne Flack.

The headteacher is Mr Steve Morton, and the school caters for children from reception and nursery classes through to year six.
