A PREVIOUSLY annual May fair has returned to Kingstone after a two-year hiatus due to Covid restrictions.

The Kingstone May Fair was held on Saturday, April 30 and raised a record-breaking total of over £1,800 towards the  maintenance and running costs for St John and All Saints Church.

The church tower was opened up to allow visitors to get a view of the neighbouring countryside in the perfect, sunny weather.

A spokesperson for the event said: “It was so nice to see so many people again after the recent quiet years.”

The event featured a dog show with more than 25 pooches competing in different classes, judged by locals David and Judy Ogilvy.

There was also a hugely successful plant sale, which sold plants grown specifically for the fair by local gardeners.

All plants that weren’t sold were given to Dowlish Wake, a neighbouring village that will then sell the plants on at their own sale this week.

A raffle with prizes donated from local businesses helped to raise £250 towards the grand total.

There were also stalls selling home produce, jams and cakes, stained glass, and more locally donated items.

The event was also used as a way to publicise a campaign to reduce the local speed limit to 30mph.

Local volunteers from Kingstone and neighbouring villages helped contribute towards the huge success of this event.
