A LOCAL pre-school visited Crewkerne & District Museum on Tuesday to learn more about how people used to carry out cleaning activities without technology.
A total of 15 Jigsaw Pre-School pupils also played with toys from the 1940s and 1950s to improve their understanding of how people experienced their childhoods without games consoles and smartphones.
Crewkerne & District Museum was founded in 1988 to show how ordinary local people lived and worked throughout different periods of time, using the latest graphic techniques to enliven the displays.
A spokesperson for the museum said: “A Jigsaw Pre-School group visited Crewkerne & District Museum on Tuesday to discover how people coped with household duties in the past.
“15 children experienced washing clothes by hand and using the wringer before pegging them on the line in the yard.
“The mat was beaten with a carpet beater and old toys and games were enjoyed in the gallery.
“Each child also planted a sunflower seed to take home with a reminder to their family to remember to water it.
“Volunteers at the museum enjoy working with all ages of children and can plan appropriate activities to help them to learn about the past.”
Tomorrow, the Chard History Group will visit the museum at 11am ahead of their guided walk around Crewkerne.
