YEOVIL Amateur Operatic Society will become one of the first amateur groups in the UK to stage the multi-award-winning musical Kinky Boots after gaining the rights to the show.
The group will bring the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning musical from pop icon Cyndi Lauper and legendary playwright Harvey Fierstei to the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil from March 9 to March 19, 2022.
The show, directed by Jeremy Tustin with musical direction by Kat Stevens, will be full of glitter, heart and music.
Kinky Boots is inspired by true events, and the musical follows two people who seemingly have nothing in common.
Charlie, played by Matt Parker, is the reluctant owner of a Northampton shoe factory he has just inherited and Lola, played by Carl Holdway-Bradley, is a drag performer in need of some sturdy stilettos.
The unlikely pair discover they have more in common than they ever realised and that, when you change your mind, you can change the world.
The show was initially due to be staged in spring 2021 but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As it has been a long time coming, the cast are more eager than ever to strap on their heels and bring the show to the stage.
Mark, chairman of Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society, said: “After being unable to bring Kinky Boots to the stage last year it feels long overdue for YAOS to be back in action!
"Myself and the committee are excited for the cast to be able to share this story and it promises to be another brilliant production.
"Make sure you get your tickets and join in the fun!"
This year, Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society will celebrate its 120th anniversary.
