A MOBILITY app has teamed up with e-scooters in one Somerset town so residents can choose greener ways to travel.

Moovit, a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions provider, has partnered with Zwings in Yeovil.

Commuters can access many different public and private transport options via the Moovit app, and now they will be able to use e-scooters instead of a private car or public transport.

Moovit will be able to show users when a Zwings vehicle is nearby, and how long it will take to walk to it.

“Providing Moovit users with a full suite of travel choices is essential to ensuring that public and shared transport is more attractive than using a private car," said Luke Redfern, Moovit's UK partnerships manager.

"It’s great to see organisations such as Zwings pioneering change to our mobility system and bringing e-scooters to UK towns and cities.

"This partnership means users have reliable, accurate and up-to-date information on the availability of Zwings vehicles at all times.”

According to Zwings’ recent data, 94% of riders were in favour of Zwings rental e-scooters being made a longer-term part of transport infrastructure.

Ninety-two percent of respondents considered Zwings' e-scooters an effective substitute for short car journeys. And 40% of respondents had used the e-scooters specifically for commuting.

CEO of Zwings, Joe Lewin, added: “It is fantastic to have partnered with Moovit to provide wider, quicker access to a range of transport solutions at the tap of a button.

"From short trips across town via e-scooter to longer distance bus journeys we encourage our community to embrace the future of travel."

Moovit was acquired by Intel in 2020 to join forces with Mobileye and advance its MaaS strategy. Together, Moovit and Mobileye will accelerate the global adoption of autonomous transportation.

Moovit now serves more than one billion users in more than 3,400 cities across 112 countries.

Zwings, an e-scooter operator for towns, cities and campuses, was founded in 2019. Their aim is to give customers sustainable, convenient and affordable modes of travel across urban areas to combat the climate emergency.
