A HOLIDAY operator has resumed flights to a popular destination from Newcastle Airport after travel restrictions were further eased last week.

Jet2 and Jet2Holidays have resumed holidays and flights to Turkey after being forced to cancel trips earlier this year due to changes to the traffic light system.

The operator, which also revealed that flights would serve two Turkish airports, said the first flights departed at the weekend.

It comes as Turkey was recently removed from the UK's red list and placed on the Amber list, meaning those with both jabs do not need to self-isolate upon their return.

Steve Heapy, Chief Executive Officer at Jet2 and Jet2Holidays, said: “The resumption of our award-winning flights and package holidays to Turkey from Newcastle Airport is fantastic news for holidaymakers.

The Northern Echo:

"We are delighted to be recommencing flights and holidays to Antalya and Dalaman and to be taking customers once again to these much-loved destinations."

The operator has said it is operating up to four weekly flights to Antalya and up to five weekly flights to Dalaman.

Mr Heapy said: "Customers have missed being able to visit Turkey this summer, so the reopening of the country has resulted in huge demand and comes just in time for holidaymakers to enjoy some late summer sun.

"We continue to look towards the future with real confidence, as customers make the most of being able to get away and enjoy some much-needed sunshine.”
