A LOCAL car retailer has received a prestigious award for its continued efforts in striving towards a zero-emissions future.
Taunton Motor Company, Priory Way, has received the Electric Vehicle Accreditation (EVA) by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NDFA).
It was recognised for promoting sustainable transport options and educating local people about the gradual move towards electric vehicles ahead of the government’s plan to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030.
Alan Woodland, general manager at Taunton Motor Company, said: "We are delighted to have been recognised by the NDFA.
"This EVA accreditation recognises our expert knowledge, capability, and commitment to electric vehicles and the low emissions we are all striving to achieve on our roads.
"This reassurance to customers is guaranteed by the extensive training all team members must undertake to demonstrate a solid understanding of all-electric and hybrid models.
"This training includes charging an EV, different models and their environmental impacts, fuel consumption for plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) and guidance on servicing and maintenance."
The EVA encourages retailers to lead the way in the uptake of electric vehicles in a bid for a greener future, endorsed by the government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) and the Energy Saving Trust.
To become accredited, retailers must demonstrate the highest level of expertise in both electric vehicle sales and aftersales.
The Energy Saving Trust audits the standards required to receive the accreditation.
The trust ensures that staff are competent in their knowledge of electric vehicles and have the correct training, qualifications, and knowledge of regular electric vehicle procedures.
The NDFA also assesses a retailer’s electric service bays and the charging points made available to customers.
"We know that for many customers, electric vehicles remain yet to be explored," said Mr Woodland.
"Our aftersales and technical staff have received extensive training to ensure that customers receive a personalised and thorough approach during their switch to an electric vehicle.
"We invite customers to come and experience our range of electric vehicles and allow the team to provide a cup of coffee and a well-educated chat about the future of electrification."
