MARKET Day proves to be the highlight of the opening weekend of the 10 Parishes Festival in and around Wiveliscombe.

The visual and performing arts festival comprises artist’s open studios and exhibitions and local creative young talent was certainly on display in the afternoon carnival procession.

This encompassed the Festival theme of New Leaf and was led by Taunton-based The Big Noise Street Band.

Live music provided the atmosphere in Jubilee Gardens as West Street was packed with food and craft stallholders who reported brisk trade.

Artist studios and exhibition venues were busy in the town and in neighbouring villages.

The Festival continues through this coming weekend including performances by violinist Florence Cook at Wellhayes Vineyard and a female acapella trio Voice who will produce a one hour show of music, light and visuals in St Andrew’s Church Wiveliscombe.

Festival Director Pauline Homeshaw commented, “The planning of the 10 Parishes Festival is detailed but also a lot of fun, and it is bringing real pleasure to see the community being able to get out again and celebrate whilst enjoying our local creative talent."
