A BURNHAM-on-Sea man has been hit with a £800 fine for assaulting an on-duty woman police officer.

Stefan-Viorel Ciobanita, 36, c/o Wilton Close, Burnham, was also ordered to pay the officer £100 compensation for the attack on April 11 this year.

He must also pay an £80 victim surcharge and £85 costs following the case at Taunton Magistrates' Court.

Magistrates decided not to impose a separate penalty after Ciobanita admitted being drunk and disorderly in Bridgwater the same day.

A CHARD woman caught shoplifting on three occasions has been given a one-year-conditional discharge and told to pay £30 costs by magistrates.

Sophie Ella Plyer, 33, of Furzehill, Chard, pleaded guilty to stealing groceries of a value unknown at Lidl, in Crewkerne, on September 1 last year for which she was ordered to pay £104 compensation.

She also admitted stealing Christmas decorations worth £97 from The Original Factory Shop, in Chard on November 25 and meat valued at £57.50 from the Co-op, in Axminster, on March 24 this year.

A WOMAN was in court for attacking three different people.

Jasmine Ann Price, 28, of South Way Drive, Yeovil, pleaded guilty to assault by beating of three people.

The first attack was in Wellington on December 14 2019, while the other two attacks were in Kingston Road, Taunton, on April 25 last year.

Price was made the subject of a community order and ordered to pay a £90 victim surcharge and a total of £125 compensation.

DOMINIC Ashley Griffiths, 30, of Victoria Avenue, Chard, pleaded guilty to speeding on the A380 at Newton Abbot on September 6 last year.

He was fined £450 with a £45 victim surcharge and £85 costs and received six penalty points.
