MORE than 100 new homes in a South Somerset town are being built in record time, thanks to their innovative timber-frame construction.

The homes, at Coat Grove, Martock, have proved popular as they are being built, with more than half sold since the development opened last year.

Barratt Homes is using the latest construction methods where the timber is precision cut off-site enabling a fast and efficient build on-site.

The developer says the timber frames also give a superior thermal performance which, along with the enhanced-efficiency insulation, ensures that Barratt Homes are 65% more energy efficient than traditional refurbished homes.

Buyer Georgie Leigh and her partner Adrian Moffat moved in recently and say they are planning to change their car for an electric vehicle, as the property boasts an electric vehicle charging point.

"Thanks to the built-in charge point, we're planning to change to an electric car," said Georgie.

"But the best thing about living here is not having to get in the car at all. Martock village has everything; shops, pubs, a butcher, a baker, and it's all within walking distance.

"I used to live on a main road, which was noisy and I spent much longer in the car driving to shops and amenities, now we live in a really peaceful location and I can walk everywhere."

Nicki Reid, sales director at Barratt Homes, said: "It's been exciting to watch this new development progress so quickly and buyers are responding really positively to its green credentials.

"This site is a showcase for eco-sustainability, combining electric vehicle charging points, solar panels and a wildlife-friendly show home garden, enabling our buyers to reduce their carbon emissions and help us to meet our ambitious target to become the nation's most sustainable housebuilder.

"Located in the lush Somerset countryside on the edge of pretty Martock village, these spacious two, three and four bedroom houses, all with garages or sheds included, are proving popular with a range of people of all ages and stages in life."
