THERE have been more than 40 positive Covid-19 tests in four Somerset districts in the past 24-hours.

South Somerset saw the largest increase with 18 new cases, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 5, 132.

Somerset West and Taunton had 14 new cases (total is now 5, 831); Sedgemoor had six positive tests (total is now 5, 105) and Mendip had just four new cases (total is now 3, 348).

The rate of infection in all districts - apart from one - has fallen too.

Somerset West and Taunton's rate is 13.5 people per 100,000 (down from 18.1). This is based on the latest rolling seven-day figures.

Sedgemoor's rate is 39 (down from 40.6) and Mendip's is 47.6 (down from 49.5).

But South Somerset's rate of infection is 54.6 - up from 49.3.

Sadly, there have been two deaths in the last 24-hours - one in Sedgemoor and one in Mendip.
