AN Olympic ski jumper and a dinosaur will be among the highlights of a push to attract more member to Rotary.

The local Rotary District 1200 is hosting a virtual conference, 'Caring for our World', on March 27 to answer your questions.

If you wonder what Rotary does, whether it's a cult or secret society or maybe you enjoy volunteering and want to help the community, you can find out about the organisation's voluntary activities across local and international communities.

There will be entertaining and inspirational speakers on a range of topics, from Simeon Moore on teenage gang culture to ex-Young Scientist of the Year Sophie Banham on wind farm technology, and with messages of never giving up from Eddie the Eagle our one and only Olympic ski jumper.

District Governor Rory O'Donnell said: "Contrary to the belief of some people, Rotary is an outward-facing organisation with opportunities for individuals and families alike to be part of the largest community-minded service organisation in the world.

"Our conference highlights some of the extraordinary impacts service above self can have, as well as demonstrating that we can have fun along the way with some not to be missed presentations - even the autopsy of a T Rex.

"We're particularly excited about the broad range of sessions on the day, whereby attendees can dip in and out of topics at leisure - being virtual it is all from the comfort of your own home - and it's free of charge."

Anyone interested in the work of Rotary - and that could include individuals and families who have been part of the volunteering effort during the pandemic - can register before midday on Thursday, March 25 on district1200.co.uk
