MOTORISTS are being warned of road closures during major repairs on two important roads starting on Monday.

Somerset County Council’s highways team is carrying out resurfacing works on the A37 near Ilchester, on a section known as the Ilchester Straight, along with part of the B3151 Yeovil Road and the Church Street Roundabout. A suitable signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works.

Work will take place between Monday, March 15, and Thursday, April 1, from 7am to 7pm weekdays. These sections of road will be closed to all traffic during these dates, except to provide access for residents and business owners. A suitable signed diversion route will be in place for the duration of the works.

Also from March 15, road surface patching repair work starts on Paul Street/Commercial Road in Shepton Mallet. The work is expected to be completed by Friday, March 19.

Paul Street and Commercial Road will be closed between 8am and 5pm to all traffic and a diversion will be in place. Residents and pedestrians will continue to have access but to assist with the delivery of these works the council has requested that no vehicles are parked on the road.

Residents are asked to liaise with the site foreman regarding access to properties within the site and essential deliveries. The team will do its best to minimise disruption for those living in the affected area.

Cllr John Woodman, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “Our commitment to ensuring the roads of Somerset are fit for purpose is vital for residents and business. It’s also an important part of supporting the county’s economic recovery.

“While it may cause disruption in the short term, the works in Shepton Mallet and Ilchester are essential. With the closures set for peak times, we encourage road users to plan ahead.”
