THERE were just 29 positive Covid-19 tests in Somerset in the latest 24-hour period.

And the infection rate is now below 80 per 100,000 in all four districts of the county council area.

The latest 24-hour figures show:

four new confirmed cases in South Somerset (for an overall total of 4,990 since the start of the pandemic);

five positive tests in Somerset West and Taunton (overall 5,792);

nine new confirmed cases in Sedgemoor (overall 5,046);

and 11 positive tests in Mendip (overall 3,277).

That means there have been 19,105 confirmed coronavirus cases in the county council area since the start of the pandemic.

The most recent infection rates based on the latest rolling seven-day figures are:

South Somerset, 46.3 per 100,000 people (down from 55.2 the previous day);

Somerset West and Taunton, 42.5 (40.6);

Sedgemoor 79.6 (82.8);

Mendip 58.8 (60.6).
