THERE were just 36 positive Covid-19 tests in Somerset the latest 24-hour period.

While three of the four districts saw a drop in the infection rate of the virus, one saw a slight rise.

The latest new confirmed cases in each district are:

South Somerset four cases confirmed in 24 hours (overall total since the start of the pandemic 4,966);

Somerset West and Taunton 14 new confirmed cases (total 5,770);

Sedgemoor 12 positive tests (total 5,013);

Mendip six new confirmed cases (overall 3,254).

The total number of confirmed cases in the county council area has risen to 19,039.

The rates of infection per 100,000 of population based on the latest seven-day rolling figures are:

South Somerset 62.4 (down from 63.6 the previous day);

Somerset West and Taunton 47.7 (down from 48.4);

Sedgemoor 96.6 (down from 106.4);

Mendip 65.8 (up from 63.2).
