A TOTAL of 70 positive Covid-19 tests were recorded in Somerset in the latest 24-hour period.

Of those 16 were in South Somerset, which has now seen a total of 4,794 confirmed cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Somerset West and Taunton had 11 new positive tests (total 5,589).

There were 16 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Sedgemoor (total 4,766).

And Mendip had 27 positive tests (total 3,117).

The infection rate based on the latest seven-day rolling figures have dropped in all four districts.

In South Somerset the rate per 100,000 of population is now 77.2 (previously 89.7); in SWT it's 132.2 (down from 153.4); Sedgemoor's rate is 156.7 (down from 169.7); and Mendip's is 87.4 (down from 90).
