A TOTAL of 64 positive Covid-19 tests were given in Somerset in the latest 24-hour period.

The figures are low in all four districts in the county council area, giving hope that the battle against the virus is gradually being won.

The new cases were nine in South Somerset; 23 in Somerset West and Taunton; 19 in Sedgemoor; and 13 in Mendip.

The district totals of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic now stand at 4,732 in South Somerset; 5,525 in Somerset West and Taunton; 4,703 in Sedgemoor; and 3,082 in Mendip.

The overall number of confirmed cases in the county has now risen to 18,042.

The latest rate of infection based on the most recent rolling seven-day figures are 111.1 cases per 100,000 of population in South Somerset (down from 116.4 the previous day); 167.6 per 100,000 in Somerset West and Taunton (down from 178.6); 168.9 in Sedgemoor (up from 165.6); and 94.3 in Mendip (down from 102.1).
