POLICE have confirmed that the lorry driver has died in the incident. His next of kin have been informed.

IF you're heading up the M5 this morning be warned - there's been a serious crash further north.

A lorry heading north between Junctions 14 (Thornbury) and 16 (Aztec West) overturned onto the central reservation earlier.

A closure is in place between both junctions in both directions.

Northbound traffic is being advised to leave the motorway at J16 and follow the diversion via the A38.

A Highways England spokesperson said: "We still anticipate the closure remaining in place for rest of the day."

Avon and Somerset Police say the crash happened at around 8am. They said: "The M5 is currently closed both north and southbound between J14 Thornbury and J16 Aztec West.

“A significant closure is expected due to the investigation ongoing at the scene, the work required to recover the lorry from the carriageway and the emergency repair work to be carried out by Highways England."
